ARCAN

“Shraaaak” – a blue-violet lightning unexpectedly appeared as fast as it disappeared in the middle of the day during the biggest celebration of the year – Arcan Solstice Festival.

“Auhhhh ….” From the distance, King Eon felt his entire spine chill as he recognized his son, Alden’s, heavy howling. He ran to look for him only to find Alden expiring his last breath. King Eon fell to his knees, held his son’s dead body as tears flooded down his face. He felt overtaken by grief and anger. He looked around. No signs of blood. No signs of violence. His mind couldn’t comprehend what could be the cause of his son’s death. Suddenly, a thought came to his mind… betrayal.

He shrieked in pain so loud, all attendees of the Arcan Solstice Festival looked up in that instant. He rose from his knees, holding his son’s body in his arms. Out of his mouth he uttered the words “BROKEN PEACE”

In this exact moment, the Arcan Peace accords, which had been held sacred for centuries, were shattered.

THE PEACE ACCORDS

To understand the story of the Arcan Peace Accords, we have to go back to when it all began 500 years ago. Arcan, was a mystical bewildering prosperous planet. It was mainly inhabited by three factions: the Wisers, The Conquerers  and The Preachers.

The Wisers’ founding value was to establish peace through the use of their knowledge and their magic mastery.
The Conquerers – They are the warriors. Their conviction was to dominate all the land in Arcan and their tactic was to use their physical strength and power.
And finally, The Preachers, the archaic political nationals,
were living in the shadows and their strategy was to rule others through manipulation and control.

For centuries, all three factions were thirsty for power, for might, for greatness. And so, for as long as history can remember, Arcan was ruled by a feeling of uncertainty, conquest and war.

Alliances between these different factions were made as quickly as they were broken.

Battles were frequent, but the real turning point in these battles came when the factions discovered the use of magic and mystical powers. Each faction tried their hand at exploiting the use of magic to control and gain the upper hand over their opponents.
But there was something unique about Arcan …

Arcan, unlike any other land, possessed a secret buried underground, a precious mineral called Arcanium. On the outside, Arcanium was a simple translucent blue-violet stone … Still, very few comprehend the profound strength of its power when it was combined with magic. Arcanium, when used with wisdom, had the power to heal and save entire civilizations. However, when used foolhardy, it could have equally devastating consequences. On their quest to increase their magic powers, all three factions endeavor to use Arcanium to rule over each other.

Only…

Little by little, the unrighteous misuse of Arcanium to enhance magic power created a black hole, The Void, which became uncontrollable and all-consuming by anyone who used it. The Void began to change reality, physical appearance, and it even drained all the energy from Arcan’s natural resources. Arcan was in danger.

So the Wise, the Conquerers & the Preachers had to stop fighting each other. To prevail over the greater evil they had created, they had no choice but to unite their forces with the sole and ultimate goal of saving their planet.

It was this unity that brought the Void into surrender. Together they finally brought peace to Arcan.

Thus, the Peace Accords were signed between the three chiefs of the factions: Argmash – leader of the Conquerers, Eon – leader of the Wisers, and Thorumdil – leader of the Preachers. The use of Arcanium to create and possess any magic power was ultimately forbidden.

The Void had lost all its power as true peace and harmony reigned over Arcan. And so, for the last 500 years, Arcan seemed to grow more beautiful and peaceful every day. The current generations had never known wars. They existed only through the legends of Arcan. As a tribute to the great peace created in Arcan, every year during the brightest and longest day of the year, everyone came together to celebrate “The Arcan Solstice festival”

THE AGE OF EXPANSION

So, the tragic death of King Eon’s son during the Solstice Festival brought immense chaos. The Preachers blamed the Conquerers, who considered the Wise responsible for a set-up. War and separation had returned to Arcan.

Alliances, mutual aid, and all forms of benevolence had given way to mistrust, treachery, and a thirst for revenge.

This period became known as The Expansion. Chaos was such that no rules had any value anymore and peace was a thing of the past.

In times of peace, trade between the Conquerers, the Wisers, and the Preachers was simple and common, but since the Expansion, bartering had become impossible. The leaders were forced to seek the help from the Gnomes to supply them with various tools in order to exploit their lands.

The gnomes are small, independent, and neutral beings who seized the opportunity to profit and prosper as fine traders. During times of war, without an allegiance to a faction, they sell to the highest bidder, this includes trading uninhabited land.

The current state of affairs was a war of land conquest. The territories with the higher the value have become the ultimate targets as they contain more tools and resources.  Each faction’s goal is to gather as many resources as possible, to prepare for confrontation, to protect themselves, and to expand their territories. Everyone came together to celebrate the « Arcan Solstice Festival »
